Success has its problems. Penguin is a large book publisher and could not keep up with demand. Large retailers, Amazon, others, were being added as customers and their individual order volumes were increasing.

SCS solved this problem by allowing orders to be picked into barcode labeled totes utilizing a WAVE method. Orders were married to these totes and the totes were then routed to the proper stations to be filled. And then to an SCS designated pallet build station. The arriving tote would trigger a message on a 2 line display with the location of the pallet on which the tote should be placed. All routing was automatic as was the pallet build function. The operator simply followed instructions and the orders were placed on pallets and the pallets were placed into staging areas waiting for arriving pallets of the same order. When the orders were completed, shipping was notified to pick up the pallets at the proper staging area and ship.

The increased capacity built into this system easily outpaces   sales volume increases.
