The Brodart Operation at Williamsport
| Brodart is a book reseller to libraries
with value added services such as inserting library card folders, book jackets, etc. There
operation was growing and their means for fulfillment was lacking. SCS provided the
following conveyor solution which replaced hand carts moving orders on the floor. Orders are married to totes with barcode labels. Book orders are picked
into these totes on the second floor and move down a belt decline conveyor onto an
elevated conveyor that circulates around the building . On the conveyor system,
divertors direct the totes from the main conveyor to the proper work processing
stations. At these stations activities take place such as adding book cover jackets,
anti-theft devices, property stamping, and labeling. Orders are completed at the
final preparation area and then moved back onto the elevated conveyor for transport to the
packing and shipping area. The facility now processes more than 1,500 orders a day
where once processing 300 orders a day was a great day. |
